FREQUENTLY ASKED LAX QUESTIONS

If you don't find a question or answer that's satisfactory to your inquiry, please contact us at lacrosse@hyasports.org.

For general HYA questions, please consult this FAQ page.

WHAT'S THE HYA RIPTIDE LACROSSE ADDRESS?

If sending a registration check, please make it out to: HYA Riptide Lacrosse, note the player's name in the memo, and send to the Riptide Treasurer: Caitlin McCown, 27 Lovering Rd, North Hampton NH 03862.

CAN MY CHILD PLAY IF HE/SHE DOESN'T LIVE IN HAMPTON?

YES!  HYA Riptide Lacrosse is open to all children of the SAU21/90 School District. This includes Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Seabrook & South Hampton.

MY CHILD IS IN KINDERGARTEN. CAN THEY PARTICIPATE?

Sorry. Riptide Lacrosse begins in 1st grade. Houlagans Lacrosse offers a Learn to Lax program for those in kindergarten.

DO YOU PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS/FUNDING ASSISTANCE?

Yes we do. We understand that not everyone can cover the necessary fees for youth sports, and we never like to turn a child away because of it. Please contact Riptide President Cindy Taylor (cindy.taylor67@gmail.com) to inquire further.

I'M INTERESTED IN COACHING, BUT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MY LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE.

No experience is necessary. We value enthusiasm just as much as prior lacrosse skill. Probably even more. Plus, our experienced coaches offer their “professional” guidance in many ways throughout the season. We provide ample, yet simple materials and directions on how to go about teaching skills in a practice in a FUN way. For Travel lacrosse, there is robust training offered (in many cases required) for coaches through US Lacrosse.

ARE EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS PROVIDED?

Uniform costs are included in the registration costs for new registrants in 1st-3rd grade. Re-orders are at the cost of the registrant. Uniforms for returning 3rd graders and 4th-8th graders are ordered at the time of registration for an additional cost.

Practice equipment (i.e. lacrosse balls, cones, targets, etc...) will be held by coaches though provided by the HYA.

Knowing that equipment costs may be an issue for some, we post any deals/coupons we are aware of on our website. If you need financial help with equipment, please contact Riptide president Cindy Taylor (cindy.taylor67@gmail.com). We are happy to help!

WILL PLAYER AND TEAM PICTURES BE TAKEN?

We do not offer a formal photo program. We encourage coaches to organize a day for informal team pictures to be taken when there is full attendance.

DOES RIPTIDE LACROSSE CONFLICT WITH HYA/CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL or HYA SOFTBALL?

Conflicts may occur for players registering in our Riptide Travel programs.

ARE PRACTICES HELD IN THE RAIN?

For general purposes, we will hold all activities in a light rain, but most likely cancel under heavy rain - definitely if lightning and thunder are involved. Practices are held at the discretion of the coaching staff for each team. Rescheduling for another day of the week and/or indoor scheduling are potential options. Coaches will communicate any cancellations to parents and players as soon as a decision is made.

Occasionally we have the opportunity to play indoors at Seacoast United in Hampton, provided they have space that day (no guarantee). So be sure to check the website or email before you leave the house.

DO YOU PLAY ACTUAL LACROSSE GAMES?

YES! League play is available for 1st-8th graders

WHAT ARE THE PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES?

Players may be dropped off and left to the attending coach during their designated practice time. Please keep in mind that coaches are not responsible for players in the lead up to and after close of practice.

Coaches are not babysitters. Even though they are attentive to individual needs, coaches must think of the whole team, and their responsibilities lie in attending to those players who are engaged and have a cooperative mindset.

I'D LIKE TO VOLUNTEER MY TIME, HOW CAN I HELP?

HYA Riptide Lacrosse, and other HYA sports, are always looking for dedicated volunteer help. If you like working with like-minded, local parents who think youth sports are about fun and growth in equal proportion, then joining the HYA might be for you. Positions often open up for Board members, Coordinators and/or Coaches for all our sports. Please email us at lacrosse@hyasports.org to let us know of your interest.

ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS FOR LARGE FAMILIES?

Registration for families with 3 or more players participating is capped at $300.  The cost of uniforms is separate from registration and is not capped. In order for the registration system to recognize multiple players registering from a single family, try to register all of your players at one time. On the Review Page, there is a link near the bottom to “Register Another Player” - please click on this link to ensure that all your family’s players are registered within the same order.
