Coming this Winter!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Grades 5-8
  • Riders must provide their own 1000 lumen or brighter cycling specific night light.  See Lighting System Information at bottom of page. Please email biking@hyasports.org if you want to discuss the lighting options further
  • Riders must provide a rear flashing light (we have some for purchase if you do not have one)
  • Primary Ride Locations: Batchelder Trails, Rail Trail, Whites Lane and possibly some town roads.
  • 20 degree minimum temperature required for ride to commence.
  • Dress for skiing/ice fishing- don't forget hand and toe warmers

Tentative Schedule

5TH GRADERS: Wednesday Night Lights! @ 5:30 PM starting November 3rd

  • With Coach Ryan "Cousin Eddie" Elliott (60-75 minute ride)

6TH - 8TH GRADERS: Tuesday Night Lights! @ 6PM "ish" starting November 2nd 

  • With Biking Commissioner Jonathan Ruffus (90 minute ride)

NOTE: Ride duration times are approximate. If we are out on the ride and somebody has a mechanical or crashes, we may be delayed in returning.  


Lighting Systems Information

There are so many options for lights it is easy to get lost. One path is to go to a local shop such as Exeter Cycles and purchase one.  They will guide you through the selection process. The value of purchasing local is in the service and knowledge you get from the staff. 
 
Another option is to get one online.  You can now buy an off-brand light with a very high output from Amazon for less than $50 (although the quality is still less than industry standard brand names). Like many things in life you get what you pay for. 
 
If you want to make a longer term investment go for a brand name such as Niterider, Light & Motion or Exposure. If you want to get something for this program (that will still last a year or 2) then the $30 options out there will work just fine.
