Volunteer Types

One of the main goals of this program is to set a professional example to the kids on how to ride in a safe, controlled manner. We are not insulated to a field or a court to play in. Our town becomes the sporting arena with all of its obstacles and distractions like cars, pedestrians, animals, potholes and acorns (yes, acorns!) in our way. Experienced cyclists use an incredible amount of energy and focus absorbing their surroundings while they ride. We want to translate this to our kids. For this reason please read below to see where we set you up as a volunteer.  Parents are NOT allowed to crash. There is zero tolerance to the rule and we reject the idea of kids having to console their parents on a ride.  Can't have it, won't have it. We could not do this without you!

CAPTAIN:  At the helm, running the ride from end to end.  "Ride Boss" is another term we use in the bike business. You are an experienced bike handler with time both on the road and on the trails.  Understand advanced group road riding dynamics and skills. You have crashed a handful of times and know what it is like to hit the deck and peel yourself up off of the tarmac. We want our kids to emulate your riding style (crashes aside). For grades 1-2 we can ease the skill requirement a bit.

DOMESTIQUE: In the Pro Peloton (picture the Tour de France), the captain of each riding team is surrounded and served by their domestiques.  In French, the word translates to "servant".  Domestiques in this context will mean you can ride well enough that you are comfortable going over curbs, riding on some basic trails and have enough bike skills that you can just about keep up with your kids, even if you need to yell at them to slow down once in a while.

TRAFFIC CONTROL:  You do not need to ride a bike to help as Traffic Control.  We will need people to help with some set up, breakdown, moving cones and some obstacles. Maybe policing some intersections of cars or pedestrians.  Traffic Control welcomes all!

JUNIOR COACH:  For Riders currently in Grades 6-12- We are looking for responsible riders to help us run rides for Grades 1-4.  Junior Coaches (riders who are between grades 6-12) will help us with all aspects of running the younger kids program. This is a terrific opportunity to not only learn more about cycling, but also a great opportunity to help foster the riders of the future and set an example of leadership!
