HYA Basketball is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing programs and services that inspire youth participation from Pre-K through 8th grade. The program is run by a Board of Directors and coaching staff along with the assistance of player parents. We are dedicated to the instruction of the game of basketball, sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play.
HYA Basketball is open to players from Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Seabrook and South Hampton.
For the 2021-2022 season, we will be starting with registration for grades 3-8.  If conditions change, we will look into restarting our 1st/2nd CoEd league.

Our mission is to teach the great game of basketball in an instructional, enjoyable, team-oriented manner. Our league is for beginning, maturing and experienced skill levels while playing with friends, old and new, in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere!

HYA Basketball is truly a community effort. From our volunteer parent coordinators and coaches to our great sponsors. We are fortunate to have their support and it enables us to help keep local recreational basketball affordable for families. Please be sure to thank them!

2021-22 SEASON

Important Message - Please Read Below

Due to the ongoing issues of gym availability due to Covid-19, HYA Basketball has decided to partner with The RIM & The Sports Barn to give kids in our community between the grades of 3rd-8th the opportunity to play recreation basketball this winter.  This will be a big change in the basketball program whose history stretches back over 40 years.  But our goal has not changed - to give every player an equal opportunity to participate, learn the game and be part of a team.

HYA & the Rim Basketball League (RBL)

The RBL league is a recreation level basketball program in its second year, run by The RIM in Hampton. We are so fortunate to have them in our own backyard, and in conjunction with The Sports Barn, we will be able to have our teams practice once a week with games on the weekend.  Please check out the link for The RIM RBL League HERE.

This is not going to be a traditional HYA Basketball season. At this point in time we do not have access to the public school gyms.  Instead, by being a part of the RBL, our players will have the opportunity to play other HYA teams as well as teams from the surrounding area. This is a recreational level league (not travel), and we are so lucky that it is right in our town!

Traditionally in HYA Basketball, teams practice once a week with a game on Saturday mornings.  Due to Covid and our need to rent court time, teams will still practice once a week, but may be sharing the court with another team.  Games are not confined to Saturday morning, and may be held on Saturday or Sunday of a given weekend.  As we are an all volunteer organization doing our best to provide our players with a chance to play basketball this year, we appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work through the details.

$120 - 3rd through 8th grade for boys and girls programs

$300 - Family Cap (3 siblings or more)

  • All registration should be paid online using SportEngine.
  • We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE payment with credit/debit card in the event that payments are refunded due to any issues that arise.

Why the increase in price?

Simple - with the loss of access to the public schools, we have to pay for practice times at The Sports Barn and The RIM (which we are lucky to have in town!), as well as an entrance fee to join the league.  The HYA is doing everything it can to keep cost down.  As always, if price is an issue for your family, please reach out via email ( We have sponsors that have helped make youth sports possible for everyone in our community, and cost should not be a reason to not participate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is scheduling done?  Do we play teams from other towns?

All scheduling is handled by The RIM & RBL. Teams will play other teams from Hampton as well as other towns. If there is a large enough number of teams from Hampton and it works for both the HYA and the RBL, Hampton teams should have the opportunity to play other Hampton teams more often than teams from surrounding towns.

Who is coaching?

Coaches are the lifeblood of HYA.  They are the ones that make all of this work!  Teams will still be coached by volunteer parents.  All coaches must complete a background check and go through concussion protocol training.  We need volunteers!  On your registration, be sure to check if you are interested in taking up the challenge and helping to make this program strong for our community!

How are teams selected?

HYA will hold mandatory ratings clinics on Monday, October, 4th.  Players will be ranked based on skill level and teams will be determined by a name-blind draft using appropriate software.  All coaches are asked to help in the ratings clinic. This is done in an effort to make teams as even as possible.

Why does registration cost more than before?

Simple - gym time.  Without access to the public schools, HYA has partnered with The Sports Barn and The RIM to provide 1 practice per week.  Teams also need to pay a registration fee that covers entry into the league, pays officials hired by the RIM, and covers their court and administrative costs.

What about Covid-19?

In response to this question, the RBL (Recreation Basketball League) and the RIM replied:

This is something that constantly changes and will follow any mandates put in place by the NH Task Force and NH Health Dept. We will follow the guidelines of the CDC and still practice some procedures we had in place from last Winter that we feel is still good practice to keep a clean and safe environment. We will make any changes based on any mandates or guidelines.

Covid Procedures we (The RIM) still have in place:

  • Remember to wash your hands before games. We clean/disinfect game balls, player benches, score consoles and bathrooms between each game.

  • Courts must be cleared and disinfected before new teams can enter the court. RIM staff will let teams in once that is complete

  • Once your game ends you are required to immediately leave out the Court 1 exit in the gym. The front lobby is an entrance only during leagues and tournaments. Please respect leaving when your game ends so we can disinfect and get the next teams in.

Another great option for our league is we have LiveBarn. We have cameras on all 5 courts so you can livestream and play back on demand. It's such a great set up, fun for the kids and great for family members that would prefer to watch from home.

Are there playoffs?

YES!  Single elimination playoffs at the end of the season.

What about the PreK/K and 1&2 CoEd leagues?

At this point, without access to the public school gyms and the difficulty associated with Covid-19, we are going to suspend these leagues.  If facts on the ground change and we obtain access to the school gyms, we will look at the feasibility of creating some sort of offering for these age groups.

Is this season going to be the same as a regular HYA year?

This year will definitely be different.  Without guaranteed access to the public schools, HYA basketball has had to change and adapt.  Practices will be at The Sports Barn and The RIM, with games being played at The RIM.

WE DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS. Unless for specific medical reasons/physical limitations and coaches looking to work together. Personal requests make rostering difficult for coordinators who aim to please everyone. Please keep in mind that great efforts are made to ensure rosters are properly balanced and that no matter what team your child is placed on we guarantee he or she will have FUN!

Basic guidelines for properly balanced teams are as follows:

  • Equal amounts of players per teams.
  • 2 or more coaches per team. Coaches will be placed with their child’s team.
  • Equal amount of boys and girls [when applicable].
  • Even amount of players based on age and/or grade. [when applicable].
  • Even amount of players based on skill [when applicable].
  • 2 or more participants from the same town/school will be on same team [when applicable/possible].
  • Siblings [when applicable] will be placed on the same team.

Families with 3 or more players participating are capped at $300 In order for the registration system to recognize that your family is registering multiple players, please register all of your players at this time. On the Review Page, there is a link near the bottom to “Register Another Player” - please click on this link to ensure that all of your family’s players are registered within the same order. Failure to do so will result in improper processing of the family discount rate in the system.

The success of the HYA Basketball is dependent on our parent volunteer coaches. We look to provide one Head Coach and one or more Assistant Coaches per team. No experience is needed as we will provide you with all the tools necessary to help guide our young players. Above all else - ENTHUSIASM - is all a good coach needs to be productive. If interested, please indicate so when the registration asks. We value our coaches highly and are grateful year in and year out for their time and dedication.  Thanks in advance.
