UPDATE: November 11, 2020

Dear HYA Families,
We regret to inform you that the 2020-2021 HYA Basketball season has been suspended. The SAU 90 School Board decided that to best serve the community and protect the integrity of their hybrid model, they will not let any outside groups into their buildings until January 19th at the earliest. The HYA leadership understands that this was a difficult decision to make, and while we are disappointed for the kids, we respect the school board’s effort to keep our children safe.

Our volunteer staff worked hard to get this season up and running for our kids.  We ask for your patience as our incredible IT volunteers work to get refunds to families. Thank you to all the parents and community members who volunteered to make this season a success - we will build on this for the future.
Should decisions be reversed, or HYA Basketball is allowed access inside SAU90 gyms come mid-January, the possibility of a season will be reassessed. IF a season is feasible then a NEW registration process will commence
Team HYA

The Hampton Youth Association wants to acknowledge the difficulties that we all face during these unprecedented times.  The HYA Board and the SAU 90 School Board did not take the decision to offer basketball lightly.  The ability to conduct the season (and in what form) may change, and we ask the public to understand that our all-volunteer staff is doing the best they can to help support you and your family.  In the event that circumstances change regarding Covid in our community, HYA is ready and willing to suspend and/or cancel the season.  The safety of our community is at the forefront of any decision regarding basketball going forward.

Among the safety measures that will be put into place are:

  • Temperature checks at the door for everyone entering the gym
  • Screening conducted and documented at practices and games for everyone entering the gym.
  • Masks are required for everyone in the gym.  The only exception will be players who are actively on the court.

Our mission is to teach the great game of basketball in an instructional, enjoyable, team-oriented manner. Our league is for beginning, maturing and experienced skill levels while playing with friends, old and new, in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere!

HYA Basketball is truly a community effort. From our volunteer parent coordinators and coaches to our great sponsors. We are fortunate to have their support and it enables us to help keep local recreational basketball affordable for families. Please be sure to thank them!

There will be no ratings clinic this season!

HYA utilizes a blind draft system to create teams that are as fair as possible to ensure a competitive and fun season. The  draft will utilize player ratings that were done at the end of last season by coaches and coordinators.  A process for determining ratings of players new to HYA will be developed in the coming weeks - please stay tuned!

WE DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS. Unless for specific medical reasons/physical limitations and coaches looking to work together. Personal requests make rostering difficult for coordinators who aim to please everyone. Please keep in mind that great efforts are made to ensure rosters are properly balanced and that no matter what team your child is placed on we guarantee he or she will have FUN!

Basic guidelines for properly balanced teams are as follows:

  • Equal amounts of players per teams.
  • 2 or more coaches per team. Coaches will be placed with their child’s team.
  • Equal amount of boys and girls [when applicable].
  • Even amount of players based on age and/or grade. [when applicable].
  • Even amount of players based on skill [when applicable].
  • 2 or more participants from the same town/school will be on same team [when applicable/possible].
  • Siblings [when applicable] will be placed on the same team.

Families with 3 or more players participating are capped at $100. In order for the registration system to recognize that your family is registering multiple players, please register all of your players at this time. On the Review Page, there is a link near the bottom to “Register Another Player” - please click on this link to ensure that all of your family’s players are registered within the same order. Failure to do so will result in improper processing of the family discount rate in the system.

The success of the HYA Basketball is dependent on our parent volunteer coaches. We look to provide one Head Coach and one or more Assistant Coaches per team. No experience is needed as we will provide you with all the tools necessary to help guide our young players. Above all else - ENTHUSIASM - is all a good coach needs to be productive. If interested, please indicate so when the registration asks. We value our coaches highly and are grateful year in and year out for their time and dedication.  Thanks in advance.
